About

This Blog

This is a software development blog. I was sold me on the postulate that Every Developer Needs a Blog. This is a professional journal of issues faced and research found.

For the last 5 years+, my work has been primarily in ASP.NET WebForms. The current project I’m working on is converting a dated SOAP-based application written in VB6 to ASP.NET MVC. I expect the experience of updating an older app to .NET as well as transitioning from WebForms to MVC should provide content worth sharing.

I’m also a new technology guy.  I try to avoid fads, but I tend to hop on the bandwagon early. Past successes include XML in 2001 and jQuery in 2007. I skim a good number of techie RSS feeds and Twitter posts. Expect to see highlights posted on this blog.

Also, I’m a visual guy.  Expect images and infographics on almost every post, not huge blocks of text.

The Author

I am the lone author, Mike Mercincavage.  I have roughly a decade of experience as a professional programmer. Most of that experience is in the financial sector.  I worked with derivatives long before they were in the news.

I have a unique perspective.  Dating back to my first programming course in high school, I have always been a visually oriented programmer.  I can do back-end processing, but I enjoy GUI design and UX. I can talk in both worlds, so to speak. I know CSS and GUI design principles, but I also know how to build fast algorithms.

Make no mistake, this is a vanity project. A way to promote myself and my skills. But also a way to someday look back at my career.

Contact

I’m a social creature.  I can be found on twitter, stackoverflow, and a whole bunch of other social networking sites.
